All contracts have been completed on time and within budget and we would have no hesitation in using Polar Air Limited on future projects.
This project posed significant engineering challenges as the new facility is located on the first floor of a 1950s building that had been modified and extended at various times during its life with resulting structural concrete and supporting steel intrusions.
Additionally, the new facility is land locked with external exposure only on the frontal elevation thereby limiting services penetrations for ventilation and air conditioning plant etc. The external condensers for the air-conditioning systems had to be located on the roof above the 12th floor of the adjacent Staybridge Suites hotel.
One of the features of the new VRV system is providing “Free” heating and hot water production provided by transferring heat from areas requiring cooling to areas requiring heating or hot water via High Temperature Split Hydrobox technology connected to VRV air source heat recovery air conditioning systems. This resulted in the building achieving and EPC rating of C which is very good when considering the age of the building and its poor insulation properties.
Being an NHS Medical Facility, all the services had to be designed and installed in compliance with all of the latest Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) in addition to the usual British Standards.
