Bios of key personnel

Andrew Fitch – Managing Director

At 16, Andy started his career as an apprentice with a local electrical contractor. After for studying for a HNC in Engineering he went on to represent the United Kingdom in the International World Skill Olympics held in Sydney Australia for which he was awarded a bronze medal.

After serving a formal trade apprenticeship Andy worked as a junior engineer and progressed into management with diverse mid sector companies. It was at the age of 28 that Andy became one of the founding members of Polar Air Limited. With over 27 years industry experience Andy’s extensive knowledge and hands-on approach is highly valued by clients.

Andy has two children and in his spare time enjoys his passion of flying, classic cars and walking in the countryside.

Mike Hopkins – General Manager

Mike joined the company in 1996 and is now responsible for the day-to-day activities of the company. With a consultant’s background, Mike has over 25 years experience in Building Services. He is involved in all aspects of the business including project management, design & build, client liaison and sales.

Mike holds a BTEC in Building Services Engineering and an HNC in Electrical Engineering.

Mike is married with three children and in his spare time he enjoys supporting Nottingham Forest and coaching his son’s football team.

Mark Meyer – Contracts Manager

Mark joined the company in 1997 and is responsible for the management and delivery of all projects. Mark has over 24 years of industry experience and is a NIC/EIC qualified surveyor. Mark’s role includes project management, on-site visits, surveys and materials provisioning.

Mark is married with two children and his interests outside of work include walking and fishing.

Michelle Whalin – Company Secretary

Michelle has been with Polar Air for over 13 years. She began her career in accounts management and has since worked her way up, gaining experience in all parts of the business from customer liaison through to Company Accountant. After achieving AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) level IV, Michelle became Company Secretary in 2003. In her role she is responsible for Invoicing, VAT returns and Salaries. She also has an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration.

Michelle has one child and her interests include Aquafit and Travel.

Laura Whalin – Office Administrator

Laura joined the company in 2004. Her role includes general office management including receptionist duties, purchase ledger and management of call outs/maintenance programmes. Prior to joining the company Laura worked at Serck Intratrucks as a Branch Administrator.

In her spare time Laura enjoys keep fit and works as a volunteer for the local community.
